Player Code of Conduct

I, as a player in the CYLC program, understand and agree to support the following Code of Conduct:

  1. I agree to accept authority and supervision in a positive manner at all times.
  2. I agree to participate with a good attitude in all skill and knowledge exercises as assigned by the coach.
  3. I agree to communicate constructively with my coach, teammates, and opponents.
  4. I agree to treat fellow players, opponents, coaches, and referees with dignity and respect.
  5. I agree to refrain from foul language, taunting, and trash talking.
  6. I agree to respect officials and accept referees’ decisions without gesture or argument.
  7. I agree to exercise self-control at all times, setting a positive example for others to follow.
  8. I agree to encourage teammates and refrain from being critical of their mistakes.
  9. I agree to practice good sportsmanship at all times, playing hard but within the rules.
  10. I agree to wear all proper protective equipment at all times (helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, arm guards, athletic cup, mouth guard, and additional goalie protective equipment when playing that position).
  11. I agree to behave appropriately at all times and will conduct myself in a respectful and courteous manner, especially during team events or trips.

Disciplinary Policy

Violations of the above Code of Conduct will result in disciplinary action based on a three-strike system:

  • First offense: Verbal warning
  • Second offense: Suspension (length determined by severity and coaching staff discretion)
  • Third offense: Expulsion from the team

However, any involvement in a physical fight—on or off the field—will result in immediate suspension regardless of prior conduct history:

  • Instigator or aggressor: Half-game suspension (minimum), with potential for more at the discretion of the coaching staff and board
  • Both instigator and aggressor: Full-game suspension (minimum), with potential for more
  • Second offense involving fighting: Suspensions double in length (full game for instigator or aggressor; two games for both)

These suspensions are in addition to any in-game penalties assessed by referees (e.g., ejection) or decisions made by coaches (e.g., benching).

Appeal Process

Players and families may appeal any disciplinary decision by submitting a written request to the CYLC Boys Director within 48 hours of notification. The appeal will be reviewed by a panel consisting of the Head Coach, Boys Director, and at least one member of the club board. All decisions made by this panel are final.

Parent Notification

In the event of any disciplinary action beyond a verbal warning, the Head Coach and/or Boys Director will notify the player’s parent(s) or guardian(s) via email and follow up with a phone call within 48 hours of the incident.

By registering for CYLC, I confirm that I have read, understand, and agree to abide by the CYLC Code of Conduct Guidelines.
