Caledonia Boys

Caledonia Youth Lacrosse Club offers a fun, competitive, and developmental boys lacrosse program for grades K–8. Our focus is on building strong fundamentals, teamwork, confidence, and a love for the game—whether players are brand new or returning athletes. We strive to create a positive, age-appropriate environment that helps every player grow on and off the field.

Ages

K-8th

Boys in Kindergarten through 8th grade who have completed at least one Spring season of lacrosse or one session of Learn-to-Play (note that Learn-to-Play is not required after 2nd grade for new players).

When

March - June

Seasons officially begin in March and go until early June with drop-in/optional practices starting in February.

Where

Practices are typically held at Duncan Lake Middle School or Emmons Lake Elementary with pre-season/early practices held indoors at LAX Haus.

Home games are usually held at CalPlex, Duncan Lake Middle, or Emmons Lake Elementary depending on age group.

Away games are typically held in the Greater Grand Rapids area.

Practices

Practice counts vary by grade—we expect 3-4 days of lacrosse per week (split between practices and games) during the season.

*Boys K-2 will have two practices per week except during a week with scrimmages; scrimmage weeks will have one practice + one scrimmage

**Boys 3rd-8th can expect at least three days of practice or games every week.

Games

Games are usually held on Wednesdays, but due to scheduling conflicts, there may be the occasional Monday or Thursday game.

Game counts per team (approximate)

K-2: ~5 scrimmages with local teams

3/4: 10 games

5/6: 13 games

7/8: 13 games

Jerseys

Jerseys are required and are purchased through our registration process. Our jerseys are on a 3-year cycle, meaning that if the jersey continues to fit your player, they may wear it for up to three years.

2026 is a new jersey year, so all players (3rd-8th) will be required to purchase a new jersey for 2026.

Extra Costs

Tournament Team

The Tournament Team is additional for 5/6 and 7/8 teams. It's an additional cost but gives your player the opportunity to test their skills against a higher-level of play across two tournaments.

Helmets

Team helmets may be available as an add-on during registration but are not required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can register for Caledonia Youth Lacrosse boys program?

Our boys program is open to players in grades K–8 who live in or around the Caledonia community. No prior experience is required—beginners are absolutely welcome.

What equipment is required?

Players need a lacrosse stick, helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, mouthguard, athletic cup, and cleats. Kindergarten–4th grade players can usually find "new youth player kits" that include all of these pads. For complete sticks, you can find good options at Dick's Sporting Goods or Powell Lacrosse—the Scout is an excellent full-size starter stick from Powell Lacrosse! Alternatively, check out Athlete's Connection on Plainfield—this is our #1 local lacrosse store.

Do you offer loaner or rental equipment?

We have limited rental/loaner equipment available on a first-come basis for new players. This includes sticks and select protective gear. Availability varies by season.

Can I coach if I know nothing about lacrosse?

Absolutely! We always help our new coaches get ramped-up on the sport to ensure they're properly equipped to run practices and games as well as getting the players ready to compete at the next level during subsequent seasons.

Who are the coaches?

For 5/6 and 7/8, our teams are led by trained volunteer coaches—many of whom have playing- or coaching-experience at the high school or college level. Our 3/4 and K-2 teams are led by volunteer parents who have either played lacrosse or who have been trained to coach lacrosse by our upper-level coaching staff or CYLC Boys Director.

All coaches undergo background checks and follow USA Lacrosse best-practice guidelines.

Is USA Lacrosse membership required?

We do not currently require a USA Lacrosse membership to play; this may change in future seasons.

My kid has never played before; is it okay to start him in "late" (e.g. in 5th-8th grade)?

Yes! We have new players joining every season at every age-level. Our coaches will help new players learn the stick-skills and gameplay necessary to compete as well as give your kid the support they need to practice on their own.

How can parents get involved?

We rely upon—and are always looking for additional—parent volunteers for coaching, team management, and events. Let us know during registration if you're interested—we appreciate the support!

Payment options available?

Season payments can be made in-full or with a payment plan over the season. We never want financial issues to be a barrier to try lacrosse, if you're undergoing a financial hardship, please reach out to info@caledoniayouthlacrosse.com for scholarship options.

Additional questions?

Please reach out to info@caledoniayouthlacrosse.com with any additional questions and someone on our board will get back to you ASAP.
